Churros con Chocolate at Chocolateria San Gines
Chocolateria San Gines is an almost 24 hour cafe in Madrid that specializes in one thing: churros con chocolate. The cafe is in central Madrid, just a few streets down from the Opera metro stop. You can read full details of our experience stopping by this must-see eatery here at Baking Bites, but I can’t resist throwing up a few more photos of the shop here.
The churros are fried up to order. Actually, they’re just continually fried because the shop is so busy that they never really need to take a break in production! The churros are light and slightly eggy, and when topped off with a little bit of confectioners’ sugar they become very addictive. The chocolate is somewhere between hot chocolate and pudding, making it very thick and very rich. It isn’t too sweet, so it is actually easy to indulge in a lot of it despite its intense flavor. You can make your own at home using this recipe, or you can just put it on your to-do list if you’re planning a trip to Madrid!
